Blood Drive in Eden Valley Jan. 29

It’s that time of year…time for resolutions. Set a resolution you can keep–resolve to give something that means something. The American Red Cross will be in Eden Valley from 1:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Eden Valley-Watkins High School Cafeteria.

If you have donor eligibility questions, including health questions, call (866) 236-3276, select option #3.

Bring along your identification, it is needed to donate.

Parking and entrance to school premises available in the South Brooks Street Parking Lot with school entrance through door #1 (main office). PLEASE do not park along the sidewalk on the west side of the school until AFTER 3:30 p.m.; this needs to stay clear for buses. After 3:30 p.m., doors 2, 5 and 12 will also be opened for your convenience.

EV Food Shelf schedule change

Please note the change in schedule for only January for the Eden Valley Food Shelf.

We will be open the second Wednesday, Jan. 8, and the fourth Wednesday, Jan. 22.

2013 in review - August


Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins received another 5-star rating from the Minnesota Department of Health. They achieved this recognition three years in a row.w-Doug-Wilhelm-RGB

Doug Wilhelm retired as Postmaster of the South Haven Post Office in August 2013. He can be remembered as the last Postmaster of South Haven, as that Post Office now falls under the Kimball Postmaster, and will have a clerk in charge in the future.


2013, the year that was - July


Madison and Morgan Brown competed in the 2013 Pinto World Championship Show in Tulsa. Their story was featured in the July 18 Tri-County News.

Bound volumes of the Eden Valley-Watkins Journal Patriot were donated to the Eden Valley Area Library. The Journal-Patriot ceased publication in May 2012.

July 1-3 Minn. Rep. Dean Urdahl and 89 other Minnesotans traveled by bus to Gettysburg, Penn., to participate in the 150th anniversary commemoration of the great Civil War battle there.

July 7 was a country church service at the Historic Finnish Church in Minnesota Pioneer Park, Annandale. 


2013, the year that was - June


Dean Mozena was featured in the June 3 St. Cloud Times because he has driven bus in Kimball for 55 years. The article was kindly reprinted in the June 6 Tri-County News. A party was held to honor his 55 years of service (so far) June 23 at Triple R in Kimball. Dean and Karen Mozena were selected as Grand Marshals of the Kimball Days parade in August.

It was announced in June that Eden Valley-Watkins Schools would be part of a Summer Food Service program through the USDA. Breakfasts and lunches would be served at EV-W high school, EV-W Elementary school, and Watkins Elementary school each weekday during the summer, at no cost to any child who comes for it.

The German 4 class at EV-W won an Oskar for their short film “Fliehen aus dem Osten” (Escape from the East). The five seniors involved in the project were Patrick Latcham, Debbie Holdvogt, Meredith Gruenes, Kaylee Forcier, and Mickael Lies-Thielen. The class and the award were through the University of Minnesota’s College-in-the-Classroom continuing education program.

The city of Eden Valley received its new police vehicle, a Chevy Tahoe.
