In 1984 President Ronald Reagan signed proclamation 5187 declaring the first full week in May Correctional Officers Week. We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude for the Correctional Officers employed by the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office. As Correctional Officers they are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment in our detention facility, correctly processing new detainees to initiate the legal process, and the welfare of our incarcerated population. It is a career choice that often means long hours, little gratitude, and constantly working with people on their worst day. These officers continually meet their challenges with professionalism and courtesy and demonstrate a true dedication to their duty.

National Public Safety Telecommimications (911 dispatchers) week has recently concluded. I would like to take this time to thank all of our dispatchers for their continued work and dedication providing excellent services to our public safety. Each year, a week has been set aside to raise awareness of the hard work, dedication, and the vital link to public safety services our 911 dispatchers provide, and we have come to rely on everyday.
When you call our dispatch center, or 911 in an emergency, the dispatcher on duty will provide professional assistance from the routine call; for service to dire emergencies linking you to all of Meeker county’s public safety and Law Enforcement services.
In 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726, designating May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and directing flags to be flown at half-staff on government buildings. Since the first recorded police death in 1791, there have been more than 19,000 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Sheriff Jeff Norlin is announcing that once again the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the annual memorial service for the National Peace Officers Memorial Day. This event will be held in front of the Law Enforcement Center, by the flag pole, on Thursday,
May 15. There will be a short gathering that officers and the public are invited to attend. It will start at 9 a.m. and be officiated by Meeker County Sheriff’s Office Chaplin Jeff Garland. Your presence is welcome and appreciated.
