The North Star Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club is holding its 12th Annual Studebaker Day at Pioneer Park. You will be able to view these fine classic cars from
1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18. You’re invited to come out and see these vintage vehicles that were labeled in their day as “ahead of their time.”
You will see Studebakers from pre-war through the mid 60’s. The Studebaker Company was first incorporated in 1852 in South Bend, Ind., and in time became the largest wagon manufacturer in the world. In 1902, they began selling electric runabouts and trucks. Interesting isn’t it, we make a big issue today of electric cars;
1904 was their first year to sell gasoline powered vehicles, which they continued to sell globally until December of 1966. The South Bend production plant closed in 1964, and automobile production continued in Hamilton, Ont., Canada, until 1966.
Minnesota Dance Ensemble will hold auditions for their 2013-2014 season at 12-3 p.m., May 19, and Aug. 11, at the Paramount Theatre, 913 W. St. Germain Street, St. Cloud, MN 56301.
Open to dancers ages 18+, the Central Minnesota non-profit’s mission is to provide opportunities for dancers in the disciplines of performance, education and advancement within the arts. The company is predominantly modern and jazz based, however dancers trained in various styles are welcome and encouraged to audition. Dancers are asked to prepare a two-minute solo, as well as a dance résumé that includes training and performance experience. Those auditioning will also learn a phrase of choreography and interview with the directors.
This organization is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Attendance at this year’s Smelt Fry Saturday, May 4, put on by the South Haven Fire Department, tied last year’s record of 651. (Actually, this year’s attendance was one away from the record, only 650; but that’s close enough!)The serving line with a long line winding behind them.
