St. John’s Lutheran in Kimball Nov. 2
Very few of us have not been touched by the tragedy of suicide. Too often, despair and hopelessness lead people to take their lives. But even those who have never contemplated suicide experience feelings of despair and hopelessness. Many suffer from depression.
St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kimball is hosting a workshop on Saturday, Nov. 2, which will address these difficult issues. The Rev. Peter Preus will lead a workshop titled: “Speaking of Hopelessness: When Believers Consider Suicide.” Rev. Preus, pastor of The Lutheran Church of the Triune God in Maple Grove, Minn., is the author of “And She Was a Christian – Why Do Believers Commit Suicide?” Pastor Preus’ first wife, Jean, committed suicide in 1994. The workshop will address such question as: “Why do people commit suicide?” “Are there different kinds of hopelessness?” “What does it mean to despair?” “What may we say to the despairing and those who have thoughts of suicide?” “What if this person is a Christian?” “What shall I do if I have reason to believe that a loved one will attempt to end his or her life?”

Jan. 1, 2014, the Church of St. Anthony in Watkins will begin it’s year-long recognition of its 125th anniversary. One important event is the new pictorial directory. Life Touch Directories will be doing the photography and production of the new books. This is a special directory as it will mark the 125th Anniversary of St. Anthony Church. It will have photographs depicting the early life of St. Anthony Church, as well as those of today’s parish life. We encourage all of our parishioners to make an effort to be included in this important project. Parishioners can register for a photo session by going to St. Anthony’s webpage at stanthonywatkins.com. Just click on the Life Touch Sign Up icon. There is no cost to participate, and everybody will get a free 8x10 photo as well as a free directory.
