American Legion Auxiliary State Convention at Mahnomen

The 94th State Convention for The American Legion Auxiliary was held July 18-20, at Mahnomen, Minn.

Auxiliary member from Kimball, representing the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #261 was LuAnn Marschel.

Raleen Tolzman of Cleveland, Minn., State President of the American Legion Auxiliary, presided. American Legion Department Commander Don Pankake from Hutchinson brought greetings. Martin Warnsholtz, the mayor of the city of Mahnomen, and White Earth Reservation Tribal Council Secretary/Treasurer Robert J. Durant welcomed everyone to Mahnomen. Incoming Honorary Department Junior President, Kaitlin Fernlund, a member of the Waite Park Unit #428, brought greetings from the Junior (members who are under the age of 18) Auxiliary.

Greetings were also brought by the 2013 Governor of Minnesota Girls State Caprisha Buchanan of Circle Pines, Minn.

Keynote speaker was the Northwestern National Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Doris Ann Werlinger of Rapid City, S.D.

The Kimball Unit received Certificates of Merit for their programs in Americanism, Children & Youth, Education, Junior Activities, Memorial, National
Security, Poppy, Public Relations and Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation. LuAnn Marschel served as the Department Sergeant-at-Arms for the Convention and the Installation of the new officers.

The newly elected officers for 2013-2014 American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Minnesota are:

• Shirley Frederick, Department President from Hackensack;

• Chris Ronning, Department First Vice President, from Maple Grove;

• Sandra Fredrickson, Department Second Vice President, from Glenville.
