Dead man found in Sauk River

At 12:47 p.m Sunday, Aug. 10, the SCPD received a 911 call where the caller said a man was found in the Sauk River. He had been pulled out and onto the shore. He was unresponsive and blue. Officers from the SCPD, members of the
St. Cloud Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded. All efforts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful at the scene and he was pronounced dead. The SCPD requested Stearns County Sheriff’s Office to respond and assist with the investigation.


Medication disposal opportunities coming up

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Stearns/Benton Physicians Association are co-sponsoring two events to collect unused medications. Deputies will be on hand to collect the medications for disposal at:

• The Senior Expo, Riversedge Convention Center, St. Cloud, Saturday, Aug. 16, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

• Summer Time by George, Lake George, St. Cloud, Wednesday, Aug. 20, 5-9 p.m.

These collections are in addition to the permanent drop boxes located at the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Melrose, Paynesville, Sartell and Waite Park Police Offices. For further information on the program please call (320) 259-3700.

Burglary in progress, Aug. 4


Monday, Aug. 4, at about 12:32 p.m., a female homeowner returned to her home at 33326 112th Avenue in St. Wendel Township, and saw a man in her home. She heard him yell out (possibly to another person) and then ran off. The homeowner called 911 and Stearns County Deputies responded to search for the suspect(s).

A ground search was conducted by deputies with the assistance of officers from Avon and St. Joseph Police Departments and MN State Troopers. The MN State Patrol also assisted with the search with a helicopter and airplane. Deputies also attempted to track the suspects with their bloodhounds.

Items were missing from the home. Deputies are continuing to investigate this burglary and are looking for information on any suspicious persons or vehicles seen in that area.

Union Grove house fire

At 6:51 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office and Paynesville Fire Department were dispatched to 36935 532nd Avenue, Union Grove Township, for a report of a house fire that had started in the laundry room. When the Meeker County Sheriff’s Deputy and Paynesville Fire Department arrived on scene, the single story house was fully engulfed in flames.

The home was owned by Shalom Farms and was being rented by Richard Hubert, 59, and Karen Hubert, 59 of Grove City. Karen Hubert and an 11-year-old granddaughter were home at the time of the fire and they were alerted by a smoke alarm. Both were able to get out of the house safely and notified the Sheriff’s Office.

The value of the house and property inside are unknown at this time but were a total loss.

Eden Valley Fire Department was paged to assist the Paynesville Fire Department with extinguishing the fire.

The State Fire Marshal was contacted about the house fire.

French Lake Twp. fatal accident

Wright County Sheriff Hagerty reports that Saturday, July 19, at about 3:40 p.m. Wright County Communications received a 911 call of an accident involving a motorcycle and a golf cart at
17205 46th St. NW in French Lake Township.

Wright County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and found that a motorcycle had collided with a golf cart on 46th Street NW. The driver and lone occupant of the motorcycle, Eric Lefebvre, M.D., age 51, of Buffalo, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lefebvre was wearing a helmet. The driver and lone occupant of the golf cart, Korie Schiel, age 39, of Chaska, was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries. Deputies were assisted at the scene by South Haven Rescue and Allina Ambulance Service.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
