Monday, Nov. 19, at 3:17 p.m. the Stearns County Sheriff's Office got a report of a fight ON the roof of the Stearns county Jail. A re-roofing project is under way contracted through Horizon Roofing. Officers responded to the call and found the victim, a 23-year-old man, who had received a large cut on his forehead. He also reported that a tooth had been knocked out. The suspect, Warren Smith, age 43 of St. Cloud was found and several co-workers who had witnessed the argument and fight were interviewed. The victim and Smith are not employees of Horizon Roofing and were contracted as temporary workers through a temporary employment agency.
Officers learned that a verbal altercation had taken place between the victim and Smith which escalated into a physical confrontation. Dur that confrontation, Smith struck the victim in the face with a rake used for spreading out rocks as part of the roofing project.
Warren Smith was arrested and booked INTO the Stearns County Jail on a charge of second-degree assault. St. Cloud Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics provided medical care, but the victim refused further treatment.
