Meeker Cooperative crews aid In aftermath of Sandy

Two linemen from Meeker Cooperative Light & Power of Litchfield have been dispatched to Long Island, N.Y., to aid in the recovery from Superstorm Sandy.

Linemen Pete Wyffels and Ryan Hess left Litchfield Sunday, Nov. 4, to connect with a supervisory team on Long Island. They have been assigned to work with a crew from Toronto to restore electric lines and poles for an investor-owned utility on the island. The men expect to be working there for a minimum of two weeks, but it may be longer.

"As part of the Co-op's mutual aid contract, our crew will be reimbursed by the utility they are working for in New York," said Meeker Co-op's Operations Manager Steve Johnson. "Lodging and meals will also be provided for as long as they are there."

Wyffels and Hess join 42 other Minnesota linemen who have volunteered to aid in restoring power to those in need following this destructive storm.

Meeker Cooperative Light & Power is a rural electric cooperative that serves more than 8,000 members in Meeker, McLeod, Wright, Renville, Stearns and Kandiyohi counties. Since 1935, Meeker Co-op has been providing safe, reliable electricity and other value-added programs and products to its rural members.
