On Monday morning, most of us woke-up to some frost on our windows as temperatures fell into the 20s and lower 30s. Many spots in northern Minnesota hit the upper 20s for morning lows. Mora, Hibbing, and even Benson all dipped to 28 degrees.
Meanwhile, Alexandria and Morris both fell to 37 degrees. The Elbow Lake area fell to 33 degrees which was just four degrees shy of the record low set for that city set back in 1951.
The chilly air was short-lived, however, as many of us needed the AC back on by that afternoon. High temperatures warmed-up into the mid to upper 70s and even some lower 80s around the state.
It's that time of the year where temperatures can have a big extreme from the early morning to the late afternoon. So keep the shorts out, but a sweater or jacket handy for late in the evening or early morning!
As far as rainfall chances, it appears little moisture remains in our future right through the weekend. Temperatures will cool-off by the midweek, but we will gradually warm-up into the 70s once again out ahead of a weak system that could bring some rain by Sunday night. Here's hoping for some much-needed rainfall!
Have a great weekend!
Weather history: On this date in 1965 Minnesota residents woke up to a cold morning as temperatures fell into the teens and low-to-mid 20s statewide!
Weather fact: The air located around a lightning bolt is heated to around 30,000 degrees Celsius. This is five times hotter than the surface of the sun!
