Janet Secord of Foley died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. She was 74.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at St. John's Catholic Church in Foley with Rev. Daniel Walz officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Foley Funeral Home in Foley and after 9 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Janet Secord was born June 2, 1938, in Gilman, Minn., to Vincent and Celestine (Schueller) Ratka. She married Alden Secord Oct. 7, 1957, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. The couple lived most of their lives in the Foley area. Janet worked for Primerica Financial Services for many years. She also sold Home Interiors and Gifts for many years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers and spending time with her family. Janet volunteered countless hours for the religious education program at St. John's Catholic Church, was a 4-H leader and belonged to the St. John's Christian Mothers. Janet had a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; and brother Tony Ratka.
She is survived by her husband Alden of Foley; sons and daughters Debbie (and Daniel) Hennek of Foley, Barbara (and Fritz) Hoffmann of South Haven, Susan Secord of Minneapolis, Mary (and Jerry) Orth of Clearwater, Wayne (and fiancée Dorothy Jackels) of St. Cloud, Paul (and Erin) of Avon, Sharon (and Doni) Martin of Foley; 19 grandchildren; brothers Vincent Ratka, Jr. of Minneapolis, Jim Ratka of Gilman; and sister Frances Tadych of Minneapolis.
