Lola Mae Schmidt of Fair Haven died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, So. Dak. She was 76.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball with Rev. Timothy Nerud officiating. Burial will follow at the Fair Haven Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball, and at the church one hour prior to services. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Lola Mae Schmidt was born July 20, 1936, in Morton, Minn., to the late Wilbert and Sophie (Reetz) Steinhaus. She married Howard E. Schmidt April 11, 1953, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fair Haven. She was a homemaker and worked many years in manufacturing, the most recent being an assembly supervisor for Tool Products. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and their quilting group, her bridge group, and the Red Hat Club. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, and playing cards.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard, of Fair Haven; children Blane (and Dorothy) Schmidt of Rogers, Denise (and Greg) Lenneman of St. Michael, Gwen (and Schmidt) Morehead of Fair Haven; sister Dorothy (and Rollin) Stuve of Fair Haven, and brothers James (and Kathleen) Steinhaus of Maple Lake, Robert (and Lorie) Steinhaus; 11 grandchildren: Jason (and Dixie) Schmidt, Noah Schmidt, Jeremiah Schmidt, Tayva (and Scott) Bancroft, Tessa Lenneman, Tegan Lenneman, Theo Lenneman, Taylor Hagen, Travis Hagen, Scott Bongaarts, John (and Tricia) Bongaarts; three great-grandchildren: Lillian and Jon Bancroft, and Ella Bongaarts.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and music will be provided by organist Lynn Hoff.
