Arlene Johnson of Litchfield died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Emmanuel Nursing Home of Litchfield. She was 80.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, and continued one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Lake Ripley Cemetery.
Arlene Alice Johnson was born Aug. 17, 1931, to Marlin and Florence (Campbell) Booth, in Meeker County. She grew up and attended grade school in Forest City. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1949, and continued her education at St. Cloud State University. In 1952, she was united in marriage to Harlan Johnson at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield. She taught school in Kingston and Sauk Rapids before moving to Dassel. She taught at the Dassel-Cokato school and also served as the Curriculum Administrator for 44 years. Arlene continued to substitute teach after she retired, and for a few years while wintering in Arizona, she helped students with learning disabilities. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder, Clerk of Session, and Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a charter member of the Forest City Threshers, and enjoyed traveling to tractor shows with Harlan. Arlene enjoyed yardwork, baking bread, and music.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother Donna, and sister Beulah.
She is survived by her husband Harlan of Litchfield, sons Richard (and Carrie) Johnson of Kimball, Doug (and Laurie) Johnson of Litchfield, grandson Jared Johnson (and fiancée Courtney Nistler) of Litchfield. She is also survived by her close cousins Darlene Miller, Barb Wischmann, and Delores Whiddon.
Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church are preferred.
