John Lynch, 93



John Lynch of Palatine, Ill., died Saturday, June 23, 2012, at St. Joseph Home, Palatine, Ill. He was 93.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Chapel of St. Joseph's Home, 80 W. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. A private interment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.

John Joseph Lynch was born June 11, 1919, to Thomas F. and Mary Ann Lynch. He was a man of integrity dedicated to his Catholic faith, family and country. He was an officer in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, retiring as Commander in 1963. He graduated from Resurrection Grammar School, St. Mel's High School, and the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He was a career investment banker, director of Bond Club of Chicago, and the University of Illinois Alumni Association, past president of the Illini Club, a 50-year member of University Club, Chicago, and fourth-degree charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Ghost Council 4977. John resided in Chicago and Inverness, Ill., and Bradenton, Fla.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Erma E. (Steman) Lynch; son Thomas; and brother Thomas M.

He is survived by children John Jr., James (and Dorothy), Mary "Molly" (and J. Dickson) Graff, William (and Patricia), Sr. Maria Christine, LSP "Margaret," and Richard (and Elsa); 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; nephews Drs. Sidney, Henry, and Louis Bernstein; family friend Margaret Sholund and Stephanie Lynch.

The Lynch family deeply appreciates the loving care that he received from the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Joseph's Home, Palatine.
