Peter Werner of St. Stephen, and formerly of Eden Valley died peacefully Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his home with family at his side. He was 62.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in St. Stephen. Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, with parish prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation continued after 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Stephen Parish Hall.
Peter R. Werner was born Oct. 26, 1949, in St. Cloud to Quentin "Fritz" and Rosemary (Becker) Werner. He grew up in Eden Valley where he graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1967. He attended Moorhead State University where he played football and wrestled, graduating in 1971. He was proud of his long history working in the grain industry. He was instrumental in founding of the Eden Valley Rescue Squad. He was an active member of St. Stephen Catholic Church where he was on the Fall Festival Committee and a long-time usher. He also acted in the St. Stephen Community Theater. Peter had passion for the outdoors, enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially fishing and town team baseball.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Kim (Schuneman) of St. Stephen; children Pete of Kimball, Jessica of Farmington, Dutch of Rice, and Teeny of Minneapolis; grandchildren Samantha and Chandler; siblings Connie (and Joel) Fleck of Burke, Va., Mary (and Tom) Reeves of Minneapolis, Phillip "Bumpy" of St. Cloud, and Paul (and Laura) of Buffalo, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
