Minnesota's State Champion 4-H Dairy Knowledge Bowl team from Meeker County beat 19 other state champion teams from throughout the United States to win the National 4-H Dairy Knowledge Bowl at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 8. This is the first time that Minnesota has won this contest in over 25 years. The contest consists of four team members taking a written quiz, answering group and individual questions on all aspects of the dairy business. The Meeker County 4-H Dairy Bowl Team won their first two matches handily, defeating Michigan and Georgia by over 100 points each. The next two matches were much closer, defeating New York and Wisconsin by 60 and 40 points respectively. The Meeker County team saved their best match for the championship, defeating Iowa by 150 points. Team members Simon Kern and Isaac Salfer were also first and second, respectively, of the 80 total participants on the written test. Team members were Isaac Salfer and Lucas Salfer from Dassel, Simon Kern from Watkins and Alan Barka from Watkins.
