A beef fall roundup workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brainerd High School FFA Farm Wednesday, Oct. 20. This year's keynote speaker is Deb Roeber from the University of Minnesota (U of M) Beef Team. Roeber has spent years tracking and monitoring animal performance for yield, tenderness and quality of product. She will provide a hands-on view of beef production, from live animal and carcass evaluation through harvest, fabrication and consumer acceptance of beef products. Pasture economics and renovations will be discussed by Extension educators, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service will identify opportunities for livestock producers to receive cost-share on implementing carious cattle production practices. Numerous exhibits of cattle handling equipment, health products, feed products and live cattle will be on display. These exhibitors allow the program to be offered to producers at no charge. Producers and other exhibitors in Minnesota and surrounding states are encouraged to participate. For more information about this program, visit the U of M Beef Center Web site at www.extension.umn.edu/beef. Gene Krause is an educator specializing in livestock with the University of Minnesota Extension Service Regional Center, Roseau.
