Kimball Girl Scouts lend a hand to Camp Friendship

The Kimball Girl Scouts hosted Camp Friendship's weekly social event on July 2. Pam Matthiesen, a leader of the Scouts, along with volunteers Tara Matthiesen, Megan Jones and Alisha Jones, entertained Camp Friendship's participants with a night of carnival games and ice cream. When asked why they volunteered, Matthiesen explained, "We thought it would be a good opportunity for the girls to do something for the community. They had a wonderful time." Development Specialist Dianne Graphenteen commented, "I always enjoy seeing what satisfaction the many volunteer service groups get when they spend time at these special events. The appreciation is evident on the faces of the campers, and the volunteers get such a good feeling in return for their efforts." Friendship Ventures has been enhancing the quality of life for people with mental and physical disabilities for 38 years. More than 3,000 people participate each year in the organization's camping, respite and travel programs offered at Eden Wood Center and Camp Friendship. More than 250 seasonal staff members and 1,000 volunteers facilitate Friendship Ventures' programs throughout the year. High school and college students, retirees, and seasonal workers such as teachers and school nurses are encouraged to contact Friendship Ventures about employment and volunteer opportunities.
