St. Cloud Optimists sought nominations for outstanding youth from various local youth service organizations. These nominees were invited to a Youth Appreciation Breakfast and given a plaque for their efforts. The breakfast was held at the Le Saint Germain Suite Hotel in
St. Cloud. St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis proclaimed that the week of Nov. 19 through 24 to be Youth Appreciation Week for the Optimist Club. Attending to hand out the plaques were District 14 Senator John Pederson, Morning Optimist Club president John Ruis and Noon Optimist Club president Perry Rollings. Tara Matthiesen was nominated by the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines for her Gold Award Project; “Birthday Boxes for the Food Shelf”. Jean Blonigan was the representative from the Girl Scout office, Tara was one of two girls honored from Girl Scouts and one of 15 youth that were honored for their community service work in the St. Cloud area.
