Two separate fires Saturday, Nov. 17, brought 9-1-1 calls to the Stearns County 9-1-1 center. Kimball Area Fire and Rescue were dispatched at 11:38 a.m. to a grass fire at Hwy. 15 and Dellwood Road in Maine Prairie Township. the fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes. At 11:44 a.m., the second call came of another grass fire on CR 141 east of Hwy 15 in the city of St. Augusta. The St. Augusta Fire Department responded and found a fire which involved a large grass and wooded area. This fire also involved a number of hay bales which were stored in a field just off of CR 141. St. Augusta Fire requested the assistance of Rockville Fire Department, and the Kimball Area Fire and Rescue responded when they completed their call. The owner of the hay bales responded to break up the hay bales so that they could be properly extinguished. Because of the nature of this fire, the wooded area affected and the hay bales, this fire took many resources and the St. Augusta Fire Department worked until about 3:20 p.m. The origin of these fires was not determined, and it is not known if they are related. However, both fire departments and the Sheriff’s Office advise caution as the fire danger appears to be increasing.
