The National Children’s Memorial Day is Sunday, Dec. 9. This event which began in 1997 is a day set aside to remember all children who have died. Candles will be lit by families and friends in homes around the world in memory of children. Candle lighting will begin in New Zealand and end on the West Coast of the United States, illuminating the globe in a 24-hour wave of light. Peterson Chapel of Buffalo, the Compassionate Friends of Rockford, and the Buffalo Hospital Foundation are working to make the public aware of this special day.
Parents of children who have died are invited to attend a candle lighting ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 9, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Christ the King Retreat House at 621 1st Ave. S., Buffalo, Minn. Parents may bring a single framed photo of their child for display if they wish. Time for sharing reflections and memories will be part of the evening as well.
Parents may submit names of children who have died, and these names will be listed in a publication of the Wright County Journal Press on Dec. 6. Please note: names for the paper need to be sent to Margaret Randel at 1430 Pulaski Road by Dec. 2. To submit a name or ask questions; please call Margaret Randel at (763) 682-1619, or Karen Marschel at (763) 682-3329.
