The Kimball girls’ basketball team began its season with opening home wins in non-conference play against Royalton and Milaca. In the first game Tuesday, Nov. 27, Royalton started hot converting on seven of their first eight shots to start the game. The Cubs battled right with the Royals as the lead changed several times in the first half. The score at halftime ended in a 24-24 tie. In the second half, Royalton built a 5-point lead with five minutes to play in the contest, but Kimball finished with a 15-6 run to close out a 52-48 victory.

Friday, Nov. 30, Kimball hosted Milaca where, again, the Cubs would allow their opponent to start well. The Wolves hit five of their first six shots to start the game with a lead. Kimball again battled back and finished the first half with a slim 28-26 lead. In the second half, the Cubs would eventually wear down their opponent and close out a 65-53 win. The team’s wins were highlighted by senior guard Breane Meierhofer’s 32 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 steals, despite being in foul trouble in both contests. Senior center Allie Seth posted 23 points and 11 rebounds, senior center Kaylee Petty scored 16 points with eight boards. Senior guard Kenadi Mackereth had 14 points along with 12 assists; senior guard Raelynn Callander scored 13 points; senior guard Paiten Schreiner had 9 points; Junior guard Lexi Rose had 5 points; sophomore forward Madelyn O’Brien scored 4 points, and grabbed 10 rebounds, while senior Casie Mackereth scored 1 point and also reached for 10 boards. Next up, the Cubs host Paynesville Thursday, Dec 6, and are at Dassel Cokato Friday, Dec. 7. Go Big Blue!
