The Kimball boys’ basketball program began the season Monday, Nov. 19. A total of 30 players in grades 8-12 started the season. The varsity team is coached by Jay Klein, who is in his seventh year at Kimball. Rick Hendrickson is beginning his fifth season coaching for the Cubs and he has moved to the junior varsity level this year. Corey Harmon, a third-grade teacher at Kimball Elementary, will coach the C-squad.
Members of the three teams this year include: seniors Cole Denn, Preston Peglow, Austin Roerick, Ed Nielsen, Connor Wittenberg, Brad Mies, Dallas Newman and senior manager Torey Rohloff; juniors Mathias Hennen, Cameron Hunt, Nate Overland, Ben Serbus, Hunter Schreifels, and Stephan Thompson; sophomores Isaiah Ehlinger, Brady Faber, Austin Marx, Jarred Merchant, Brandon Schiefelbein, Will Spaulding, and Joey VonWahlde; freshmen Colton Czech, Sam Ehlinger, Sawyer Mies, Ortega Mohamed, Jarod Olson, and John Zipoy; and eighth graders Mason Hennen, Parker Peglow, Noah Shonyo, and Keali’i Kapoi. Miranda Albert and Madison Schreifels will also be managers for the team.
The Cubs have 24 games on their schedule this year and are looking forward to a competitive season. Kimball opens the season Tuesday, Dec. 4, by hosting Royalton. Kimball is hosting the Holiday Tournament again this year on Dec. 20 and 22. The Cubs open the tournament against Spectrum with Brandon-Evansville and Watertown-Mayer facing off in the other bracket.
