Cubs C-squad v Royals and Falcons

Tuesday, Dec. 4, v Royalton

The Kimball Cubs boys’ C-squad opened their 2012-13 season Tuesday night against the Royalton Royals. The Cubs’ scoring was paced by the outside shooting of freshman guard Jarod Olson who finished with 7 points. Sawyer Mies was a physical presence in the post for the Cubs. He gathered  multiple  offensive and defensive rebounds while scoring 6 points in the paint. Kimball also had offensive contributions from forward Sam Ehlinger, John Zipoy, and Ortega Mohamed.

The Cubs’ defense was stingy in the first half, allowing  just 15 points to the Royals. However, the Kimball offense struggled to take advantage, scoring only 7 against Royalton’s 2-3 zone. In the end, Royalton’s second-chance points were too much for Kimball to overcome in a 21-35 defeat.

Friday, Dec. 7, v ACGC

Friday night the Kimball boy’s C-squad faced off with the ACGC Falcons.  The Cubs offense looked to attack ACGC’s man defense, led in particular by the dribble penetration of guards Mason Hennen and John Zipoy. Kimball was able to get open looks at the basket, but failed to convert on many of them. Sawyer Mies led the team in points with 5, while Sam Ehlinger, Jarod Olson and Keali’I Kapoi added 2 each.

The Falcons took advantage of their size and superior post play throughout the game, finishing with 56 points, many of which came from inside the paint. Kimball will look to bounce back on the road with games at Norwood/YA and Maple Lake.
