By Mark Messman,SuperintendentBuilding Project:Progress on the secondary construction project continues, and we’re hopeful to move into the offices in January.Contractors continue to mix and apply the terrazzo flooring on Brook’s Street Lobby, paint the gym walls, hang baskets and dividers, apply acoustical materials, and install flooring in the office area. We continue to monitor the moisture content of the gymnasium slab and once we get our internal concrete moisture content below a reading of 80, we can initiate the hardwood installation. In addition, work on the performing arts stage continues. Contractors were busy cutting the concrete opening for the mechanical lift, and we anticipate installation in the near future. Our fine arts team and building administration are also working with lighting and audio vendors to finalize this exciting project.
Please stop in for a visit with your questions and comments, and be sure to exercise caution when you’re in the proximity of the construction zone. Minnesota Math & Science Scores: A recent report released from the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) shows Minnesota students posting high scores in both math and science, and outperforming peers both nationally and internationally. The report looks at the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), comparing the performance of U.S. fourth- and eighth-grade students in math and science against their international counterparts. Of the U.S. states and international education systems that participated, Minnesota eighth-grade students scored sixth highest in science and seventh highest in math. Our students and communities should stand proud to be ranked among the best in the world for math and science. We are frequently reminded that we live in an increasingly global economy, and for our students to thrive in the workforce, they need to possess skills that will keep them competitive. We continue to challenge our students and raise expectations as we strive to increase achievement for all of our students. Senior of the Week: The EV-W School District would like to recognize Melissa Kummet, daughter of Joe and Deb. Melissa is an excellent student, and an impressive person. She is an active member of Choir, Aquila, and the girls’ basketball team. Missy serves as the treasurer for Concert Choir and has been commended for her outstanding attention to detail and accuracy. The EV-W administration, faculty and staff are extremely proud of your accomplishments. Congratulations!
