Fatal sledding accident in Dassel Twp.

Thursday, Dec. 27, at 3:33 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a call and dispatched Dassel Rescue and Gold Cross Ambulance to a medical at 24506 700th Avenue in Dassel Township, the Craig and Barbara Kay residence. The caller stated that there had been a sledding accident. It was learned that a 10-year-old girl, a granddaughter visiting from Fayetteville, N.C., had been sledding down a hill with other children in the backyard when her sled had hit a raised stump and she was ejected from the sled.

Gold Cross Ambulance transported the 10-year-old to Meeker Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this death.

The children were under adult supervision and this appears to be a tragic accident resulting in the death of a 10-year-old family member.
