Poor play results in loss to Huskers

The Kimball Cubs hosted the Holdingford Huskers last Tuesday night, Jan. 8. Kimball jumped out to an early lead by moving the ball well on offense and pressuring Holdingford into turnovers on defense. A late run by the Huskers cut the lead to one for the Cubs at the half (23-22).

The second half saw the Cubs build their lead to as many as 7 points at two different times, the last with just over 12 minutes remaining. However, the Huskers went on a 21-3 run over the next nine minutes to take a 47-36 lead. A fierce rally by the Cubs fell short as they lost 57-49.

The Cubs placed two players in double figures, Cameron Hunt with 18 and Jarred Merchant with 12.  Hunt and Preston Peglow dished out six and five assists respectively.  Austin Roerick and Jarred Merchant each had five rebounds, while Cameron Hunt had five steals. The Cubs shooting from long range really hurt them as they were four of 18 (22 percent) from three-point range. Kimball’s record fell to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The Cubs’ game against B-B-E is postponed to Friday, March 1.
