Ann Thiel of West St. Paul, formerly of Kimball, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. She was 96. A memorial service will be held in Spencer, Iowa, in the spring. Ann Thiel was born in Fostoria, Iowa, to Michael and Marie Michelson who had immigrated from Denmark. She married Bryce Thiel in 1938, in Iowa, and they honeymooned in Chicago. Bryce and Ann moved from Ames, Iowa, to Kimball in 1952. They also lived in Brooten for several years while Bryce taught school. They moved back to Kimball when Bryce retired. In 1990, they moved to the Twin Cities to be near their daughter. Ann and Bryce were married 62 years until Bryce’s death in 2000. Ann was an avid bowler, a formidable bridge and scrabble player, loved to travel and entertain, and was an active church member and attended First Presbyterian Church in South St. Paul. Ann really enjoyed the ecumenical ladies group in Kimball and many of them continued to communicate over the years. She continued to love to expand her knowledge and enjoyed people to the end. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Bryce Thiel; four sisters, and one brother. She is survived by their three children Brian (and Sharon) Thiel, Mike Thiel, and Meredith Fritz; grandchildren Melinda Lecheler, Heidi Thiel, Michael Thiel, Tim Thiel, Liz Grittner, and Phil Thiel.
