Local crime blotters Feb. 21, 2013

Lynden Township house fire

Sunday morning, Feb. 17, at about 9:30 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a building on fire at the location of 20722 9th Ave. East, Lynden Township. Fire Departments from Clearwater, Clear Lake, and St. Augusta, and Stearns County Deputies responded to the scene.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which had fully engulfed the building. The owner, Jeffrey Storms of Clearwater, state that he had recently turned on a portable heater to warm the vacant residence, as he prepared it for rental. No injuries were reported and the case remains under investigation.

 

Rollover accident with injuries

Saturday, Feb. 16, at about 2 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call from two teenage boys from Melrose who reported a one-car rollover in which the occupants of the car could not get out. The teenage boys were able to help the Sheriff’s Office by providing important information that helped emergency personnel respond to the scene.

Raymond Zenzen from Melrose was driving a 1998 Mercury Marquis westbound on County Road 13, just east of County Road 191 in Getty Twp. Zenzen lost control of the car because of the slush/ice-packed roads. The car left the roadway and continued to travel into the north ditch where the car rolled and landed on its roof. Zenzen, 88, and his passenger, Laura Zenzen, 76, were trapped in the car.

With the help of Elrosa Fire and Rescue, Melrose Fire and Rescue, Sauk Centre Ambulance and State Patrol, the Zenzens were removed from the car. They were taken to Centra Care Hospital in Sauk Centre where they were treated for their injuries. Raymond and Laura were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. 

 

Eden Valley Police blotter

There were a total of 56 calls for service to Eden Valley Police in January 2013. There were 18 calls to assist the public, 6 calls to assist other departments, and 16 miscellaneous calls. There also were 3 arrests, 3 thefts, 2 alarms, 2 calls to assist rescue, 2 motorist assists, 2 verbal warnings, 1 accident and 1 dog complaint.

 

Kimball Police blotter

January 2013 saw a total of 204 calls for Kimball and 50 calls for Fair Haven.

Fair Haven calls included 12 citations for speeding (and 7 verbal warnings), 6 equipment warnings, 4 animal complaints, 4 fights, 3 DAR/DAS/DAC citations/arrests, 2 agency assists, 2 motorist assists, 2 suspicious vehicle/person complaints, and one each of the following: accident, disorderly conduct, driving complaint, driver license violation warning, insurance violation warning, seat belt citation, suicidal complaint, and welfare check.

Kimball calls included 32 parking violations (all warnings), 28 equipment warnings (and 1 citation), 19 extra patrols, 17 business checks, 14 speeding tickets (and 3 warnings), 8 seatbelt tickets, 7 agency assists, 6 citizen contacts, 6 DAR/DAS/DAC citations/arrests, 6 insurance violation citations (and 3 warnings), 5 suspicious vehicle/person complaints, 4 bar checks, 3 license plate/tab citations (and 5 warnings), 3 motorist assists, 3 welfare checks, 2 alarm complaints, 2 domestic complaints, 2 driving conduct warnings, 2 driver license violation warnings (and 1 citation), 2 fire/burning complaints, 2 medical calls, 2 stop sign/light citations (and 2 warnings), and 1 each of the following: accident, animal complaint, driving complaint, littering citation, open container warning, paper service, passing on right citation, personal assist, property damage complaint, public urination citation, suicidal complaint, texting citation, warrant service/attempt.

 

Watkins crime blotter (Meeker County Sheriff’s Office)

There were a total of 41 calls for service in Watkins during January 2013. (The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office patrols the city of Watkins.) There were 9 traffic stops resulting in 6 warnings and 3 citations, 3 calls for child abuse/maltreatment, 3 suspicious person/vehicle complaints, 3 thefts, 2 animal complaints, 2 public assists, 2 civil complaints, 2 custody cases, 2 sex crime offense calls, and 1 each of the following: alarm, welfare check, criminal damage to property, dead person, juvenile party, medical call, open door, ordinance violation, parking violation, person under the influence, school bus violation, theft by check, unsafe conditions.

 

Wright County Sheriff’s Office

Feb. 13, Jeremiah Paul Johnson, 23 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on a Wright County warrant for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Feb. 13, Chelsea Renee Scherr, 19 of Clearwater, was arrested in Buffalo on the charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Feb. 14, John Raymond Evers, 27 of South Haven, was arrested in Stearns County on a Minnesota Department of Corrections warrant for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Feb. 17, Nicholas Bryan Ordorff, 29 of Annandale, was arrested in Buffalo on a Wright County warrant for violation of a court order.

Feb. 17, Casey Harold Lambert, 21 of Maple Lake, was arrested in Maple Lake Township on a Minnesota Department of Corrections warrant for burglary.

There were 35 property-damage accidents, 2 personal-injury accidents, 5 hit-and-run accident, and 7 car-deer accidents.

There were 10 arrests for DWI, 2 underage-consumption arrests, 1 school bus stop-arm violation, and 81 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations reported this week.

 

Meeker County Sheriff’s Office

Monday, February 18

1:13 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance and Eden Valley Rescue for a medical at an address on State Street North, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the Paynesville Hospital.

4:00 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a theft of gas from Schmidty’s gas station in Grove City.

5:47 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at an address in the Watkins Trailer Park. One individual was transported to the Paynesville Hospital.

Sunday, February 17

11:21 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted with a civil issue that had occurred at Jack’s BP station, Watkins.

3:45 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance and Eden Valley Rescue for a medical at an address on State Street North, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Saturday, February 16

1:45 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a medical at Hilltop Healthcare Center, Luella Street, City of Watkins. One individual was transported to the Meeker Memorial Hospital.

5:35 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance for a snowmobile accident on MN Highway 55, near County Road 48, in
Stearns County. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Friday, February 15

6:36 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance, per the request of the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, for a medical at Powder Ridge Ski Hill, 93rd Avenue, Kimball. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Thursday, February 14

7:26 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a property damage accident on Meeker Avenue and Veterans Drive, Watkins. No injuries were reported.

8:40 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on 722nd Avenue and County State Aid Highway 27, South Haven. The deputy located the vehicle and it was parked on private property.

9:17 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office arrested Justin David Lipinski, age 27, of Eden Valley, on a Minnesota Department of Corrections warrant for probation violation.

2:52 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of theft from a residence on Luella Street, Watkins.

4:49 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a noise complaint at a residence on Central Avenue South, Watkins.

Wednesday, February 13

12:32 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Eden Valley Rescue and Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Hutcheson Avenue East, Eden Valley. One individual was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital.

6:34 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office dispatched Watkins Ambulance to a medical at a residence on Louisa Court, Fairhaven Township, Stearns County. One individual was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital.

10:58 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a large herd of cattle on MN Highway 22 in the area of 380th Street, Manannah Township. Upon the arrival of the deputy the owners were on the scene trying to get the cattle rounded up. There was also a vehicle on scene that had struck one of the cows. No injuries were reported. A report was taken.

Tuesday, February 12  

10:26 a.m. the Sheriff’s Office assisted with a K-9 search at Eden Valley Watkins Jr/Sr High on Brooks Street North, Eden Valley. (According to Principal Kiehn, nothing was found.)

1:49 p.m., on 330th Street, Watkins, the Sheriff’s Office arrested Jacob Daniel Salo, age 34 of Watkins, on a Meeker County warrant for probation violation.

Monday, February 11

12:24 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office took a report of a theft at Jack’s BP station, Watkins.

2:04 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office responded to a civil issue at Ron’s BP, Dassel. Upon arrival of the deputy it was determined the parties would handle the matter themselves.
