It appears that Mother Nature has not finished with the Kimball Speechers quite yet. Tuesday, Feb. 19, with snow falling and high winds across south central Minnesota, resulted in several school closings, including Willmar, where the speechers were planning to compete. With no meet, students instead had a large team practice. Their hard work paid off for them at Maple Lake Saturday, Feb.23.
Together, the team brought home their second first-place trophy in the Small Team category, along with several individual awards. Olivia Straley placed sixth in Storytelling, and Holly Dahlinger and Danielle Helgeson placed third in Humorous and Serious Prose. Katelyn Lichte won third place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Placing second in Serious Drama was Logan Bartholomew, and Maicy Vossen earned a second place in Storytelling. Alissa Jones also placed second in Extemporaneous Reading. Last but far from least, Jonathan Bisila is the Champion in Great Speeches. Congrats to all Kimball Speechers on a great tournament.
This week, we travel to Sauk Centre where we will meet plenty of Section 5A competition. The bus leaves at 7:15 a.m. The following week Kimball will host their annual Empress Invitational, this year with a Hunger Games theme. The rounds begin at 9 a.m., 10:20 a.m. and 11:40 a.m., with final rounds beginning about 1:15 p.m. Speech meets are always open to the public, and we encourage you to come see what the activity is all about, and be entertained by the talented central Minnesota youth competing.
The speech team would like to thank those who came out on the beautiful Sunday morning to have breakfast with us. Although we had a record low turnout, we very much appreciate the generosity and encouragement of those who did attend.
