Kimball Speechers traveled to Sauk Centre Saturday, March 2, to compete with 16 schools for top honors. At a speech tournament, students are
ranked in each of three preliminary rounds, where competition is randomly drawn. Scores are then tallied, and speakers with the eight highest ranks meet in a fourth round. In this final round, the speakers are scored by three judges. Team points are tallied based on both preliminary and final round scores.
Kimball Speech had an Amazing day at Sauk Centre today. Although the team placed fourth in the large team division, we had 12 people in finals, including five in the top three, and scored second-most points in the final round. We also had two important firsts today: Junior Kim Fennema earned a place in the final round of Storytelling for the first time ever. Alissa Jones, a senior who has been part of the speech team since eighth grade, and who has placed second approximately a dozen times over her career, finally earned a Champion medal in Extemporaneous Reading. Congrats to all the speechers who competed!
