Marcus Barshaw indicted for first-degree premeditated murder

Friday, Nov. 16, Marcus Michael Barshaw, DOB 10/11/1984, appeared in court after a Stearns County grand jury indicted Barshaw on murder in the first degree (premeditated murder) and murder in the second degree (intentional murder), for the Oct. 21, shooting that resulted in the death of J.J.S. in Rockville, Minn. The grand jury also indicted Barshaw on assault in the first degree for assaulting a Stearns County deputy and assault in the second degree for assaulting E.A.W. Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.

Barn fire in Luxemburg T’ship

Friday, Jan. 25, at about 4:42 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Watkins Fire Department were dispatched to a barn fire at the address of 15234 150th Street in Luxemburg Township. This location is about 4.5 miles northwest of Kimball. A barn which had tractors and calves had caught fire, possibly from heating lamps used to keep calves warm. The barn belonged to Ronald Molitor of Watkins. Five calves died in the fire. The barn was severely damaged.

Fish house fire on Clear Lake

Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 9:21 p.m., the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office and the Watkins Fire Department responded to 36649 657th Avenue, for a fish house on fire. The fish house was on Clear Lake approximately 200 yards from this address. The owner of the fish house, John Young, age 46, of Watkins, was in another fish house on the lake when his second house started on fire. It is believed the cause of the fire was the heater being left on unattended. The fish house was a 7x14 homemade wheel house valued at $400 with approximately $1,200 worth of equipment and personal belongings inside.

Sunday, Jan. 13 at about 5:19 p.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to a personal injury car accident on Highway 23 near Stearns County Road 140.

Sheriff asks for public help

Sheriff Jeff Norlin is asking for the public’s help in reference to recent daytime burglaries occurring around Meeker County. Sheriff Norlin is asking the public to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and persons who may be in your neighborhood. Grant, Stevens, Pope, Douglas, and Kandiyohi
Counties have had more than 30 reports of daytime burglaries. Wednesday, Jan. 9, Meeker County had a burglary that occurred on County Road 2 in Forest City Township, in the mid-morning hours that appears to be the same suspect as the other counties.
