Thefts from vehicle

Wednesday, June 11, the Stearns County Sheriff’s office took the report of a theft from a motor vehicle in the 41800 block of Co. Rd. 1 in Brockway Twp. Taken was money and paperwork for a bank account. Friday, June 13, the Sheriff’s Office took the report of three thefts from a motor vehicle in the area of 5th Ave. NE in the City of St. Stephen. Taken in these thefts were two Ipods, several power tools, cash and two handguns. The handguns were described as a Ruger Mark 1 .22 caliber pistol and a Ruger model 03313 9mm pistol. Several other vehicles were also gone through with nothing reported to be missing. The vehicles were all unlocked at the time of the thefts. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens that vehicles left outside overnight should have valuables removed or hidden and the doors locked. Anyone with information on these thefts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (320) 251-4240. One additional break in was reported late Friday morning, June 13, in the same area, at Marie Crt., in St. Stephen. Money was taken in that theft.

The only suspect description available is a male wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Safe and Sober

Sheriff Jeff Norlin announces that the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office will be participating with several other agencies throughout the state of Minnesota in an enhanced enforcement and education effort of the dangers of speeding. The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is conducting increased speed patrols June 16-20,
to combat this deadly cause of traffic crashes. The area law enforcement is emphasizing the need to drive at safe speeds.

Sheriff Norlin states that unsafe and illegal speed is the most commonly reported contributing factor in fatal crashes. During 2009-2011, speed was a contributing factor in fatalities in Meeker County and a contributing factor in
254 traffic deaths statewide. Traveling at unsafe speeds only increases the chances of crashing violently. Driving at unsafe speeds causes a greater potential for loss of vehicle control, increased stopping distance and less time available for drivers to respond for crash avoidance.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to be aware that more than twice as many speed-related fatal crashes occur on rural roads than on major urban roads. The Sheriff’s Office would again like to remind everyone to drive at safe speeds.
