Kimball Fire and Rescue is planning an open house at the Kimball Area Fire Hall from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Everyone is welcome. Fire and Rescue will serve hot dogs, beans, chips, and root beer floats for a free-will donation. Proceeds go to Kimball Senior Dining.
This evening will feature Life Link demonstrations, depending on weather, also a fire-prevention demonstration. Don’t miss this important community event.
Car v. horse collision
Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10 p.m. the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, and Litchfield Fire Department responded to a vehicle vs horse accident near the intersection of Minnesota Highway 22 and County State Aid Highway 18, Greenleaf Township.
Edward Dziuk, 48, of Litchfield, was driving a 2012 Honda Civic north on Minnesota Highway 22 when he collided with a horse. Dziuk was not injured and the horse was killed. The 2012 Honda Civic was totaled.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol.

There were 43 extra patrols, 25 seat belt citations (and 7 warnings), 22 equipment warnings, 18 speed warnings (and 14 citations), 11 assists to other agencies, 11 business checks, 5 bar checks, 5 DAR/DAS/DAC arrests, 5 stop sign citations (and 2 warnings), 4 alarms, 4 checking welfare of an individual, 3 citizen contacts, 3 insurance violation citations (and 2 warnings), 3 suspicious vehicle/person complaints, 3 texting while driving citations, 2 animal complaints, 2 assault complaints, 2 civil complaints, 2 domestic warnings, 2 drug/narcotics citations (and 1 complaint), 2 juvenile problem complaints, 2 license plate/tabs warnings, 2 minor consumption citations, 2 motorist assists, 2 parking violation warnings, 2 passing on right citations, 2 theft complaints, 2 tresspassing complaints, 2 warrant service attempts, and one each of the following: accident, disorderly conduct, driving complaint, driver license violation citation, fire/burning complaint warning, found property, fraud complaint, intoxicated person complaint, medical call, no-pay complaint, paper service, personal assist, property damage complaint, and vandalism complaint.
The EV Sportsmen Club and Meeker Pheasants Forever are co-sponsoring the DNR firearms safety class in Eden Valley beginning Monday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. in the EV Library at 306 State St. N.
Students must be at least 12 (or turning 12 during this calendar year) before taking the course. The FAS Certificate becomes valid at age 12. The class is open to the first 35 students to enroll on the first night.
Persons 18 or older may take the course work on line, but must take the written test and perform the field test Aug. 21, to obtain their certificate. Talk to Gary if you are interested in that option.
Residents near Sauk Centre have reported concerns about some door-to-door sales people selling cleaning products. The residents claim that the sellers demonstrate a cleaning product, but the item they then purchase is not the same as the demonstrated product. The checks were cashed immediately and the seller has not returned to reconnect with the purchasers as promised.
Sheriff’s Officials have not determined if a crime has occurred, but urge residents to be cautious before making any purchases from vendors that they are not familiar with.

July 1, Christopher Joseph Stark, 24 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on the charge of domestic assault by strangulation.
July 4, Thomas Alan Johnson, 30 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on a McLeod County warrant for violation of an order for protection.
July 5, Brandon Michael Anderson, 26 of Annandale, was arrested in Albion Township on the charge of second-degree DWI.
July 5, Christopher Paul Hazel, 37 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on the charges of obstruction with force and disorderly conduct.
July 5, Johnathan William Hansen, 29 of Annandale, was arrested in Annandale on the charge of driving after cancellation inimical to public safety.
