Cubs softball lose to Bulldogs

The Kimball Area softball team continued their losing ways Friday, May 10, as they journeyed to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity high school and lost a tight one, 5-3. The Cubs fell behind right from the get-go, surrendering three runs to the Bulldogs in the third inning. Kimball just couldn’t get things clicking, and too many base-running blunders prevented them from starting any kind of rally. Lester Prairie’s Burke picked up the win, registering 6 strikeouts, 6 walks and giving up 1 earned run. Alexis Rose took the loss for Kimball, issuing 5 strikeouts and 5 walks. She hit one batter and was responsible for 1 earned run. The Cubs’ Lauren Libbesmeier went 2 for 4 at the plate; Maddi Libbesmeier was 2 for 3; and Breane Meierhofer was 2 for 3, with 2 runs scored. The Bulldogs’ Rachel Heuer, Morgan Roush, Courtney Scoblic, and Leigh Felder had a hit apiece, and catcher Shannon Nix picked up 2 walks.
Cubs softball lose a pair to Rockford

It was a nice night for ball as Kimball traveled to Rockford on Monday, May 6, for a double-header. The Cubs were coming off of a 15-3 victory over Upsala the previous Friday. Errors plagued the Cubs as they committed six defensive mishaps in game one, and three in game two. The Cubs lost game one 10-0 and game two 15-0. Cubs’ coach Eric Primus remains confident. “Alexis Rose struggled to find the strike zone, and as a result she was pulled from the game after we trailed 10-0 in the 2nd inning. Madison Libbesmeier relieved Rose. She threw the remaining four innings, allowed 2 hits, and walked 2.” L. Majeski pitched for Rockford, going the distance, striking out 10 Kimball batters and giving up no hits. Madison Libbesmeier did not allow any runs in the four innings that she pitched.
K-EV-W girls in Conference golf meet

Albion Ridges Golf Course was the scene of the 5th Central Minnesota Conference golf meet for the Kimball-Eden Valley-Watkins girls’ golf team. The Maple Lake-hosted Tuesday, May 14, event resulted in a fourth-place finish for the K-EV-W ladies.
The conference battle included teams from Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Kimball-Eden Valley-Watkins, Maple Lake, Pierz, Rockford, and Osakis. Scoring summary: K-EV-W’s senior Paiten Schreiner, 49; sophomore Nicole Vossen, 46; sophomore Hannah Serbus, 55; sophomore Madelyn O’Brien, 57; junior Erin Salo, 68; Trinity Erickson, 59; B-B-E’s Jordan Gruendemann shot 43, HL-W-W’s Bailey Krumwiede shot 48, Maple Lake’s Tabitha Latzig shot 45, Pierz’s Jessica Hawks shot 42, Rockford’s Rachel Clem shot 49, Osakis’s Peyton Garcia shot 41. Peyton also took Medalist Honors for the meet. Osakis took First Place with a net 172; Second Place, B-B-E, 189 net; Third Place, Maple Lake, 192; Fourth Place, K-EV-W, 207 net; Fifth Place, HL-W-W, 208; Sixth Place, Rockford, 217; Seventh Place, Pierz, 226.
Cubs’ baseball week three

With the season half done the Cubs played four more games last week. The week began with the Cubs traveling to Howard Lake for their first of two double headers. Coming into the games, the Lakers were 7-3 and the Cubs were 4-5, and on a four game winning streak.
The first game proved to be a pitching duel with only one run scored in the game. That run came in the top of the first inning when Preston Peglow singled in Mathias Hennen. Starting pitcher Joey VonWahlde went the distance for the Cubs, allowing only two hits and striking out three for his second consecutive shutout.

Monday, May 13, found the Cubs traveling to take on the HL-W-W Lakers. The Cubs would drop both games 4 to 5 and 3 to 8. The rest of the week the Cubs saw nothing but wins. Thursday, May 16, they hosted the Pierz Pioneers and took the first by a score of 8 to 7 and the second 3 to 0. On Firday the Lady Cubs traveled to Melrose for a non-
conference game and won with a score of 10 to 5.
