Thursday, March 21, the Friendship Quilters Quilt Club will be hosting an “open house” meeting for anyone who is interested in joining our group, or just coming out for a night to see what we are all about.
The meeting will be held at Gone to Pieces Quilt Shop in Kimball at 6:30 p.m. We generally have a demonstration, discussions regarding upcoming events and what we’ve been working on, as well as “Show & Tell” and refreshments. This group is a very casual quilt club and we welcome new members! If you can’t come in March, feel free to join us at any of our monthly meetings, the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Gone To Pieces!

Mark your calendars for the Sixth Annual “Sportman’s Night Out” which will be at Powder Ridge north of Kimball Friday, March 29. The event is sponsored by Maine Prairie Ducks Unlimited Chapter #312. This event includes raffles for a Fishing package, two Waterfowl Hunting packages, Tier Raffle, 3-Gun Raffle, Bean Bag Raffle, Pull Tab Gun Raffle, Green Wing Raffle Sponsored by The Kimball Rod and Gun Club and a Deer hunting package. The Big Dog gun is a Fausti Silvery DU engraved O/U 3” 12 gauge. Other packages will be available with a total of at least 10 shotguns and rifles raffled. A silent auction will also include many donated items from area businesses and DU merchandise.
A sit-down dinner of fish or chicken will be included. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. Purchase your tickets soon, as no tickets will be sold at the door. Call Jamie Kurkowski at (320) 241-6975, for tickets or more information.

The regular meeting of Frederick A. Metcalf Unit 261 American Legion Auxiliary will not be held on its regularly scheduled day. Instead, it will be held Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. Please mark your calendars.

Lyndon Johnson–Agate Collector
Come to the Stearns History Museum and Research Center Wednesday, March 13, and learn how Lyndon Johnson’s agate hunting has grown from a pastime to an obsession. Johnson has been collecting agates – fossilized coral and quartz – for about 17 years.
The rocks’ beauty and history, as well as the thrill of the hunt intrigue him. All his agates come from Central Minnesota, the greatest percentage from Benton County. He has one of the largest collections in the world. Johnson will have hundreds of his favorites to show. The Museum store also sells his book entitled Lake Superior Agates: What to Look For. The time is 9 a.m.; admission for members is free, non-members, $5. Light refreshments will be served starting 8:45.
Wat-Kim-Valley VFW breakfast March 17

The Wat-Kim-Valley VFW Post 5460 is planning a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 17, at the Watkins Village Hall.
The menu includes sausage, French toast, eggs, hash browns, juce and coffee.
Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and 4 and under are free.
There will be a bake sale, silent auction - Baskets of Hope, fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
The team “The Fighting Chicks” are Doreen Unterberger, Sharon Skuza, and Judy Braegelmann.
