Marty Mudcats strong at State Tournament

The Marty Mudcats 16U Fastpitch Softball team traveled to Ham Lake, Minn., to compete in the Minnesota Metro Fastpitch League (MMFL) 16U State Tournament this past weekend. There were 20 teams from all over Minnesota. The team came out strong in the first game vs North Area, W-MartyMudcats-2014-State-Teamwinning easily 13-0. The second game would prove to be a little tougher, but the Mudcats still came out on top, winning over MN Heat.

The third game of the day was close, but the Mudcats could not come up with the hits when needed, and lost to the Wolfpack from Cottage Grove by one run. Sunday’s first game would be another tough team, but the Mudcats were able to battle back from a four-run deficit to win over the team from New Ulm.

Kimball schools add kindergarten section

The July 16 school board meeting was the first one with the new superintendent, Jim Wagner, and new elementary principal, Keri Johnson. (The full minutes of the meeting are on page 12.)

The Kimball school board agreed to add a third section of kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year. (Numbers were two sections of 26 students, and now will be three sections of 18, allowing for any new students coming in). The new teacher will be hired as a full-time, long-term substitute with the possibility of permanent hire (as has been the practice before). Principal Johnson has already interviewed a good potential candidate for this job.

In routine matters, the board designated the Tri-County News as its official school publication, and Harvest Bank of Kimball as its primary depository.
