Aug. 31: Holy Cross Parish Breakfast

Holy Cross Parish plans a breakfast benefiting Holy Cross School 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Aug. 31. They’ll be serving scrambled eggs with all the fixings (peppers, onions, cheese, ham, salsa), Knaus sausage, pancakes, hash browns, breakfast rolls, milk, juice and coffee.

Cost for adults is $7 and children $5. Children younger than 5 are free.

Holy Cross School is located at 10651 County Road 8 in Marty (Pearl Lake).

Aug. 15: Church of Our Lady ice cream social

An ice cream social is planned at the Church of Our Lady, Manannah, at 4-7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15. There will be barbecues, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, pie, ice cream and beverages.

Also planned is a Country Store with baked goods and garden produce. All for a free-will offering.

Mass for the Holy Day is at 8 p.m. 

The Fair Haven Ladies still get together

They met Tuesday, July 29, at the home of Verna Salmela, and then spent the afternoon remembering old times and viewing the flower gardens of Verna, Vanessa Schlueter, and Evelyn Weisman. Aug. 15: Pedal Pilgrimage

Friday Aug. 15, a Pedal Pilgrimage to the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring is planned.

St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church in Forest City is again organizing the annual pedal pilgrimage to the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring. This 20-mile bike ride combines spiritual and physical exercise. Bikers gather at 3 p.m. Friday for prayer at St. Gertrude’s with additional prayer stops along the way. The pilgrimage concludes with a Mass at the Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring.

Aug. 15, 2014, is the Feast of the Assumption in the Roman Catholic Calendar. While the prayer during the pilgrimage will reflect this theme, the pilgrimage is open to people of all faith traditions. If St. Gertrude’s is contacted by Aug. 7, arrangements can be made to get back to Forest City. Without pre-arrangement, pilgrims are responsible for getting home once at Cold Spring. The Registration fee of $10. Early bird registrants will receive a Pedal Pilgrimage Tee shirt. Pilgrims and their families are welcome to an optional $5.75 pizza dinner in Cold Spring before returning to Forest City. St. Gertrude’s Church is located at 31608 650th Ave. Litchfield MN 55355.

Christian Women’s Club meets Aug. 14

It’s the “Dog Days of Summer” in more ways than one. Not only is it the theme for a great brunch that you won’t want to miss, ladies, held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Reichel’s Event Center in Annandale, it’s also the focus of the feature. Wright County Deputy Josh Tester, with his K-9 partner Vader, will talk about how they keep your community safe. To round out the morning, there will be special music by Bev Sorensen of Annandale, and encouragement by speaker Ellen Bergmann of Flandreau, S.D., whose theme is “Help in the Midst of Crisis”.
