Aug. 26: Free nitrate water testing clinic

The cities of Eden Valley and Watkins are offering a free nitrate water testing clinic 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Eden Valley Civic Center.

Do you get your drinking water from a private well? If so, this clinic is for you.

Experts strongly recommend you test your water for nitrates. They are the most common contaminants in Minnesota’s groundwater. Elevated levels of nitrates are known to cause Blue Baby Syndrome, which can be fatal.

To collect the sample:

• Let tap run for 5-10 minutes

• Collect tap water in a clean plastic or glass container

• Keep cool

• Samples should be collected less than 24 hours prior to test.

Eden Valley Civic Center is located at 171 Cossairt Avenue West, Eden Valley.

Survey sheds light on health concerns in area

What health issues are of concern to Stearns County residents? Results from a 44-question area-wide health survey have been compiled and the results posted online.

The survey was a collaborative effort by five area county Public Health agencies and five health care systems located within those counties. Approximately 12,000 random households were asked to complete the survey, with a wide array of questions about residents’ access to health care, nutrition, physical activity, financial stress, tobacco or drug use, driving behaviors, bullying, and other social, physical and mental health-related issues.

At St. Cloud Hospital Behavioral Health Clinic

In the United States, nearly 30 million women and men of all ages, race and backgrounds suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder, such as anorexia or bulimia, at some point in their lives. An eating disorder affects the entire family.

Groups are led by a licensed psychologist or registered dietitian and provide support to friends and family through education and sharing with others who also have a loved one with an eating disorder. Each month a different topic will be explored. Attendees will take away tips for making mealtimes less stressful, how to respond to food and body image struggles and what to say or not to say.

This group is intended for family members and friends of a person with an eating disorder and is NOT appropriate for people who currently struggle with an eating disorder. There is no cost to attend. For details, please (320) 229-4918 and ask for Bette Bakke, Lauren Forest or Barbara Carver.
