Eagles boys’ basketball team tops Cubs

Picking up their eighth victory of the year, the EV-W hoopsters won at Kimball on Thursday, Jan. 9, by a score of 64-51. The Eagles’ offensive attack featured Jared Streit with 16 W-140109-cubs-bbb-vs-evw-018points and Bret Mattice with 14. EV-W coach Adam Langer was happy to pick up the road win. “I thought we played pretty well. They went on a 7-0 stretch to end the half to take the lead by 4. We settled for too many jump shots in the first half, so we focused on getting the ball inside, getting to the basket, and getting to the free-throw line in the second half.” The Eagles hit 10 out of 12 from the charity stripe in the second half, after attempting just two free throws the entire first half.  Summary: Jared Streit, 16; Bret Mattice, 14; Austin Schlangen, 13; Alex Nesenson, 11; Reese Jansen, 5; Nick Pauly, 5.
