The Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles broke a lot of Irish hearts Thursday night in a decisive 70-53 Valentine’s Day massacre at Maple Lake. Fittingly enough, the Eagles secured a 14-point halftime lead and in Act II, balls were going through hoops faster than Cupid’s arrows. The Eagles’ scoring production was a team effort: Senior forward Kirby Knutson, 20; sophomore guard Bret Mattice, 18; senior guard Brent Stenger, 9; sophomore forward Jared Streit, 8; senior guard Austin Pelkey, 6; senior guard Alex Geislinger, 5; junior forward Nick Pauly, 4. EV-W sits at 2-9 in conference play, and 9-11 overall. Next up is a busy weekend as the boys host Holdingford on Friday, Feb. 22; then depart for a battle with Pierz Saturday, Feb. 23.
Fifteen EV-W athletes lettered and maintained an accumulated 3.7 GPA or better during their fall sports season to qualify for the CMC All Academic Team. Those acheiving this award were:
