Eagles’ softball team wins battle with Holdingford

A big 11-run third inning was all that the Lady Eagles needed in their 14-11 victory over Holdingford at home Monday, May 12. “We didn’t play our best softball of the year, but given the conditions, I was happy with a win. Jamie Scherer battled the elements to get her ninth win of the year, and Kali Covert came in to secure the victory, by getting the final two outs of the game. Monica Ruhland had a nice game, going 2 for 4 with three RBI.  We will look to finish up the season on a strong note, traveling to HLWW to complete for regular season and conference.  The seeding meeting is 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, and we will know that afternoon what the playoffs hold for us in section 5AWest,” coach Dave Dziengel said.

EV-W box score/game one: Jamie Scherer, 0 for 3; Brook Stang, 1 for 5, 2 RBI; Faith Forcier, 1 for 4, RBI; Mindy Forcier, 1 for 4; Kali Covert, 2 for 4, RBI; Breanna Stang, 1 for 4; Ashley Anderson, 0 for 3, run scored, RBI; Sarah Pauly, 0 for 1; Monica Ruhland, 2 for 4, 3 RBI; Miranda Scherer, 0 for 0, run scored.

Lady Eagles’ softball team takes two from HL-W-W

The Eden Valley-Watkins’ softball team welcomed Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted in for a double header Tuesday, May 13. The Eagles looked sharp and swept the twin bill, 11-9 and 5-1. “This was a very interesting game. We jumped out to a 4-0 lead and saw that vanish as starter Kali Covert had trouble finding the strike zone, walking five of the first batters she faced. Jamie Scherer entered in the first and got us out of the inning, but not before HL-W-W scored 8 runs. Things turned in our favor as we battled back with two runs in the second, two runs in the third, and a single run in the fourth. Faith Forcier delivered the final two runs with an RBI single in the top of the sixth and we held on for the victory,” said coach Dave Dziengel.
