This year’s Little Miss Kimball pagent resulted in three Ambassadors, with equal rank and title (no queen andprincesses). From 10 candidates, three were selected to be Little Miss Kimball Ambassadors: Madison Mueller, Taylor Maurer, and Jordyn Donnay. The girls will represent Kimball in parades and community festivals during the coming year. Congratulations! At its Aug. 5 meeting, the Kimball city council approved hiring a part-time police officer effective that day. Anita Henningsgaard is currently a police officer in Cold Spring, and she also will work 8-10 hours a week in Kimball.
The public hearing for Kim-Built Country Store & Deli was held, with no public comment. The city approved the installation of a sign that is larger than allowed by city ordinance (which is quite small, the size of an average real estate “for sale” sign).
The council waived a $115 charge to mow the lawn of a home owned on Magnus Johnson Street. His lawn mower was broken and he missed mowing one week, yet there are more serious issues with other homes in the area that have been overlooked.
New London to New Brighton
The New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, from New London’s Peace Lutheran Church parking lot. The Run will feature 60+ veteran cars from 1908 or earlier and any 2-cylinder vehicles through 1915. They will come to Minnesota to tour from around the country.
The NLNB is considered by many to be the premiere old car tour in the country. This year will be no exception. Spectators will see many unique and rare cars, many that you’d only expect to see in museums.
The Watkins Fire Department hosted another Kraut N Wurst festival in Watkins this past weekend, Aug. 1-2.
Beautiful, hot days with occasional sprinkles of rain made for a perfect setting for this summer festival that’s all about community. From the coronation of Little Miss Watkins Friday evening through the “Maiden Dixie” concert Saturday night, hundreds participated in the festivities. Dozens of volunteers and sponsors helped to make it all possible. View hundreds more photos in the photo gallery at www.tricountynews.mn. Staff photos by Anton Matua and Jean Doran Matua.
