The American Red Cross Blood Drive will take place from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at the Watkins City Hall. Callers are scheduling appointments from the list received from the Red Cross. Double red machines will be available.
During the summer, blood donations often decline because of people vacationing or working late hours, but the need for blood remains constant. New donors are always needed, so encourage someone to come with you. If unsure about your eligibility, donor health representatives at (800) 733-2767, can answer any questions you have about travel, medications or health conditions that may affect your ability to donate.
Donors, now is the time to start eating iron-rich foods. Before the event, get a good night’s rest, eat a good breakfast and lunch, drink extra water and fluids to replace the volume you will donate, and avoid caffeinated beverages.
Appointments can be made at www.redcrossblood.org, or by calling 764-9152 or 764-9163. Many of our donors no longer have a land line so please schedule an appointment on line or by calling.
Bring a photo ID or Donor Card with you when you come. Please take the time to save a life by donating blood. All types are needed.

Singing is nothing new for 11-year-old Aedyn Colville of Marty.
Her mother Dina says Aedyn was barely walking when she started to hum, all the time.
Her kindergarten teacher took her aside to explain that her constant humming was distracting to other students. “But you don’t understand. Singing is my life,” was her response.
“I knew since she was little that she could carry a tune,” said Dina, Aedyn’s mother.
In March, Aedyn auditioned to sing the National Anthem at a Twins game. She was selected to sing at the 1 p.m. game Sunday, Aug. 24.
