Watkins Brush Pickup Notice


The City of Watkins will begin brush pickup on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Pickup will be the first and third Thursday of the month. (In July, pickup will be the 3rd instead of the 4th.) All brush material must be placed curb-side by 7 a.m.  Grass clippings and leaves must be in bags weighing no more than 30 pounds. Brush, sticks, and small branches must be tied in bundles no longer than 4 feet long and must not weigh more than 30 pounds. No boxes of brush material will be accepted. This is a free service offered to the residents of the City of Watkins. Brush materials not complying with the above rules will not be picked up. If you have a large quantity of brush to pick up, prior arrangements must be made with the City and a rate of $65 per hour for truck and equipment use will apply. If you wish to haul your own brush material, arrangements must be made with City Hall one day in advance by calling (320) 764-6400.

Watkins Pool Swimming Lessons Schedule

Swimming lessons available at Watkins Area Pool

Registration for swimming lessons will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Watkins Village Hall, 110 Central Avenue South. Below is the 2013 lesson schedule. Sessions will run Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Class will only be held on Friday, if a makeup day is needed because of bad weather. If you are unable to register on the 4th, you may register in person at Watkins City Hall starting from Monday, May 6, 2013, to Wednesday, May 8, 2013. You must pay for swimming lessons when you register.

Class size will be limited as follows: Preschool: 6 students; Level 1, 2, and 3: 8 students; Level 4, 5, and 6: 6 students. Children must be at least 5 years old and at least 42” tall to enter Level 1. Classes will also be subject to change if the class is not at least half full one week prior to the start of that session. The fee for a lesson will be $35.  Levels 1-5 will be instructed per American Red Cross guidelines. The Preschool level will be instructed as in previous years. It will not be the American Red Cross Program. The city may have either a lifeguard or a WSI instructing the preschool class. ABSOLUTELY NO REFUNDS WILL BE MADE. **Any parent wishing to observe their child during lessons will be asked to do so from the designated picnic area adjacent to the wading pool.

City of Watkins Equalization Meeting April 17

Important Information Regarding Assessment and Classification of Property

This may affect your 2014 property taxes.

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Appeal and Equalization for the City of Watkins shall meet on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Watkins City Hall, 111 Central Avenue South.  The purpose of this meeting is to determine whether taxable property in the jurisdiction has been properly valued and classified by the assessor, and to determine whether corrections need to be made.
