Fair Haven Township Golf Cart Ordinance No. 1

Subd. 1. This ordinance shall allow for the operation of golf carts on the township road known as Bayview Road from Bayberry Road until the bridge which is the Wright County line. It will require the owner to have purchased a permit from the township, sign the permit form and display the sticker on the golf cart. These rules are pursuant of State Statute 169.045 Special Vehicle Use On Roadway.

Subd 2. Time of road travel will be sunrise to sunset. They shall not be operated in inclement weather except during emergency conditions as provided in the ordinance, or when visibility is impaired by weather, smoke, fog or other conditions or any time when there is insufficient visibility to clearly see persons and vehicles on the roadway at a distance of 500 feet.

 

Subd. 3. Slow-moving vehicle emblem are required to be displayed on the rear of the golf cart as provided in state statute section 169.522.

Subd. 4. All traffic laws are to be followed as in any other motorized vehicle.

Subd. 5. Permits will consist of a form which will be signed by the owner of golf cart. Permits will be renewed every 3 years. Permits will require that a sticker be displayed on the rear left corner of the golf cart. Permits will have a cost of $50.00 for the 3 year life of the sticker and then will be required to be renewed.

Subd. 6. Insurance is required in order to purchase a permit. In the event that a person operating a golf cart cannot obtain liability insurance in the private market, that person may purchase automobile insurance, including no-fault coverage, from the Minnesota Automobile Insurance Plan under sections 65B.01 to 65B.12, at a rate to be determined by the commissioner of commerce.
