The Kimball Legion and Auxiliary hosted a Memorial Day service again this year at Kimball Elementary School. The Legion, Auxiliary, Sons of the Legion, and Junior Auxiliary marched to the school from the Legion Club. The Auxiliary did the "Empty Chair" ceremony, and demonstrated the folding of the flag. A "gravesite" service was held outdoors at the school. (All local Legions and Auxiliaries are looking for young people to join their ranks; ask any dcurrent member about it.)
The Kingston Legion and Auxiliary, and the Kingston community choir presented this year's Memorial Day service in the new Veterans Memorial park. Mike Kingery was the guest speaker. (Additional photos from all four Memorial Day services that we covered can be found in our Photo Gallery at www.tricountynews.mn.) Local residents enjoy their Veterans Memorial Park, next to the cemetery, and people come from near and far for the annual Memorial Day service there.
After parading up Central Avenue, the Watkins Legion, Wat-Kim-Valley V.F.W., the POW/MIA Honor Guard, and the Eden Valley-Watkins high school band entered St. Anthony Church for the service and Mass. Watkins held all their services indoors.
The Wat-Kim-Valley V.F.W. POW/MIA Honor Guard joined the Eden Valley Legion and Auxiliary, Legion Firing Squad, Eden Valley Boy and Girl Scouts, and the Eden Valley-Watkins high school band in celebrating Memorial Day May 27. Eden Valley native Lt. Col. Steven Thielen was the special speaker for the ceremony, and Rev. Bryan Hopfensperger gave the invocation and benediction. Our online Photo Gallery contains many more photos from all four Memorial Day services that we covered. Staff photos by Jean Doran Matua.
