Forty-one area alpine skiers competed in the first of four Minnesota Junior D-Team Alpine ski races on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Trollhaugen in Dresser, Wis. The meet was won by Welch Village, followed by Trollhaugen, Powder Ridge, Coffee Mill and Andes Tower Hills. From a total of 280 competitors, combined best slalom and giant slalom times were used to score results.
The following athletes took first place: Ellie Becker (girls age U6), Andy Becker (boys age U6) and Abby Wright (girls age 7). Brinley Zoller (girls age 13) earned a second-place finish.
Third-place finishes were scored by Hannah Spoden (girls age 8) and Rachael Boesen (girls age 10) and fourth by Jack Rice (boys age 7) and Leah Wimmer (girls age 13). Scoring team points with fifth-place finishes were Ashley Stolt (girls age 8), Audrey Douglas (girls age 9) and Ben Nelson (boys age 9).
Other top 10 finishes included a 6th by Griffin Steil (boys age 7), Amy Berg (girls age 8), Tom Becker (boys age 8) and Helena Nelson (girls age 14); seventh by Gabe Becker (boys age 8), Devin Russell (boys age 13), Kelly Zelko (girls age 15+) and Mitchell Homberg (boys age 15+). In eighth place were Mathieu Jobin (boys age 9) and Ben Wright (boys age 12). In ninth, Aubree Lagnese (girls age 9) and Tyler Mahowald (boys age 9), while Arin Deal (girls age 9), Jake Wimmer (boys age 10) and Jake Schuster (boys age 12) finished in 10th place.
The Ridge Racers’ next meet will be at Andes Tower Hills Saturday, Jan. 26.
