The South Haven Sportsmen’s Club sponsored an ice fishing contest Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, on Lake Francis. First place winner in the Large Game Fish Division was Haxlay Zoller with a 1 lb. 10 oz. bass; second was Bailee Hedtke with a 1 lb. 9 oz. Northern; and third place was Josh Shoutz with a 1 lb. 2 oz. The 4th annual Granite City Ice Fishing Derby will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, on Pleasant Lake, between St. Cloud and Rockville. Registration starts at 11 a.m., with fishing from 1-4 p.m. More than $10,000 in prizes could be distributed to participants, including portable fish houses, augers, fish locaters, and much more.
Over the Last two years, the event attracted more than 200 participants per year. Many fish of all species were caught. In 2011, the largest fish was caught by a Scout from Becker, Minn. This year, with prizes increased, an even larger field of participants is expected. Portables and Electronics will be permitted this year for the first time.
Youth and adults are invited and encouraged to attend the event, which will also feature concessions, warming locations, kids’ activities, and a designated spectator area. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by Saturday, Feb. 1, for a discounted rate, by visiting www.bsacmc.org, and clicking on Granite City Ice Derby.
The Watkins Sportsmen’s Club and the Watkins Chamber of Commerce sponsored the 26th annual ice-fishing contest from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at Clear Lake near Watkins. The Tri-County News sincerely thanks Ed Stein of Stein’s Thriftway Food for providing the list of winners and their prizes.
