Finally! Spring sports season arrives
It seems the horrific, historic winter weather has released its icy grip on Minnesota and the spring sports season is finally underway.
In Kimball, Eden Valley-Watkins and across the state, athletic directors have been scrambling to adjust to deal with Mother Nature’s April fool’s joke.
The Kimball Youth Wrestlers are pictured with their coaches. They placed at the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament of Champions Saturday, April 13. Kneeling are Cody Leither-fifth place, and Nicholas Bowen-fifth place. Standing are coach Gerry Spoden, Zack Holtz-first place, Ashton Hanan-second place, Carter Holtz-first place, and coach Ryan Bollman. Submitted photo.
Pictured with his awards is Zackary Holtz. He competed in the NYWA State wrestling tournament in Rochester Minn., April 6-7. He took first with 3 falls and a decision. His first-place match was a fall in the third period. A big THANK YOU to Gerry Spoden for coaching! Submitted photo.
Kimball Express has changed the date for their beanbag tournament to Saturday, May 4. It will be at 11 a.m. Registration can be on that day; sign-up is at 11 a.m.
The long-awaited and much-anticipated thaw is on, and area high school athletes are chomping at the bit to get the spring season underway. Coaches are optimistic and look forward to successful journeys in 2013.
Returning six starters from last year’s squad, the Eden Valley-Watkins baseball team should be highly competitive in the circuit. Senior Brent Stenger plays outfield and hits lead off. Alex Geislinger, in his final year, plays outfield and shares ace duties on the mound with senior Hayden Willner. Seniors Austin Berg and Travis Linn flank the left side of the infield at third base and shortstop, respectively, and rounding out the group is junior outfielder Cain Renner.
