The 216 area alpine skiers competed in the first of four Minnesota Junior D-Team Alpine ski races Saturday, Jan. 11, at Powder Ridge in Kimball. The meet was won by Hyland Hills, followed by Powder Ridge, Andes Tower Hills and Coffee Mill. Combined best slalom and giant slalom times were used to score individual results and top five places earned team points as well. The following Powder Ridge athletes took first place: Ellie Becker (girls age U6) Kimball and Claire Tikkanen (girls age 14) South Haven.
Second place finishes were earned by Abby Wright (girls age 8) St. Cloud, Ben Trutwin (boys age 8) Sartell, Ann Boesen (girls age 12) Albertville, Ben Wright (boys age 13) St. Cloud, Leah Wimmer (girls age 14) St. Cloud, Devin Russell, (boys age 14) Delano and Sam Nelson (boys age 15) St. Cloud.
Kimball Youth Wrestling participated in a team wrestling tournament Saturday, Jan. 11, in Little Falls. The team wrestled really

All boys and girls ages 9-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2014 Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Championship. The local competition will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Kimball Elementary School gym.
The Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls 9-14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year more than 120,000 sharpshooters participated in more than 3,600 local competitions.
We ended the 2013 season on a very positive note after a year of challenges faced by many golf courses.
The Kimball Golf Club has hired Dave Deem as the new golf course superintendent. Dave has served at major Minnesota golf courses, and is highly qualified to perform all golf courses duties.
The elementary basketball program for boys and girls will begin Saturday, Jan. 4, at Kimball Elementary School. Students in kindergarten and first grade will have their session run from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Students in grades two through six will have their session from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
The Junior Cubs Program will run for six weeks with Saturday, Feb. 8, being the final week. Players will receive a T-shirt and the opportunity to play at halftime of a varsity game.
